Juniors

Leeds Golf Centre is one of the finest places for juniors to take up the game around. Along with top quality, Leadbetter certified PGA Professionals , the facilities to get young golfers up and running, progressing and enjoying the game are second to none. As well as the outdoor and indoor practice facilities, The Oaks par 3 course gives them the perfect opportunity to get their first taste of proper golf.

The Leadbetter Academy staff are experts at devising thorough, detailed and fun sessions to get the kids learning and enjoying the sport from the very get go. They are constantly developing the junior program to make it as accessible as possible, as well being development and progression focused.

Term Lessons

These are the perfect way for kids to get into golf. The Term Lessons involve them attending 1 hour sessions, at the same time each week, during school term times. The sessions run on week day evenings, and throughout the day on Saturdays and Sundays. The sessions are taught in groups of no more than 6 children, cater for children aged 5 to 16, and great care is taken in finding the perfect group for each young golfer. So if your child has already had some golfing experience, but wants to get involved, we can fit them in to one of the more experienced groups.

The main aim of our coaching sessions is to get the kids out on the golf course as soon as possible, we emphasise short game from an early stage to help them completing short golf holes with a minimum of fuss and work our way back from there. This gives them the opportunity to take part in our weekly Tiger Cubs competitions as we use drastically shortened holes for the younger and less experienced golfers.

The lessons teach both the technical and tactical side of golf, as well as teaching the etiquette and values of the game. Whether your kid wants to be the next Rory McIlroy, or they just want to enjoy the occasional game with friends, the term lessons are the perfect way of getting them started and progressing in the game.

Prices for term lessons:
10 lessons – £99 or £12 per weekly session or
we offer a £28/month payment plan

Tiger Cubs

Tiger Cubs competitions are the perfect introduction to competitive golf for juniors. Played on The Oaks par 3 course, the juniors first play for their handicap, then compete in different age / experience divisions for trophies and prizes. Competitions take place every Sunday from April to October, with the occasional winter get together. The Competitions are run by Leeds Golf Centre coaching staff.

There is great comradery among the Tiger Cubs, with young and promising golfers showing improvement week on week. The juniors build a great relationship with each other, as well as with the Leeds Golf Centre staff, and really start to find their feet in the golf club environment.

Through the different divisions we use holes that vary in length, with division 3 holes averaging around 50 yards, through to division 1 where they play the back 9 of the Wike Ridge course, so the holes vary from 150 yards to 450. So in short there is something for everyone.

The kids are awarded order of merit points for their weekly performances, and Order of Merit winners, as well as Matchplay winners are presented with trophies at the golf clubs presentation night in November.

How to take part:

  • Join the Tiger Cubs for £134, where you receive Tiger Cubs shirt, membership to the par 3 course (so you can play and practice on the par 3 oaks course at any time), as well as entry to all competition for the season.

Any junior golfer aged 14 or under is eligible to play in the Tiger Cubs. If they are a member of another club or are having tuition elsewhere, this is no problem whatsoever, the more the merrier.

Junior Team Squad

The next step in a junior’s progression is to become a member of the golf club, and start to play on the 18 hole Wike Ridge course. Every junior that joins Wike Ridge Golf Club is invited to come and join in with the junior team coaching sessions, to get to know the rest of the junior section. They are also invited to play in the junior team competitions where they are supervised in playing for their handicap.
From there they are eligible to play in all Wike Ridge Golf Club competitions, as well as being eligible for selection for the junior team, who compete in leagues and knock out competitions throughout the season.

Girls Squad

Introduced in 2017, the girls squad is a specialist group, selected from participants in the Tiger Cubs Competitions who are keen to get their handicaps on a full length course and become members of the golf club. The squad was born out of our passion for encouraging and enabling girls participation in golf, and has been a great success. The girls go through the same training program as the boys, just in a solely female environment, with sessions run by Ellie Robinson and Joe Feather. The girls will be selected to play for the junior team along with the boys and encouraged to play in ladies club competitions when their games and confidence are good and ready.
