“With the collar and tongues being topdressed and overseeded last week we will now start to see a better improvement to these areas and a much stronger turf sward or grass and this will allow us to use them as winter greens in the future. We will also purchase some new directional signs for these areas. Please may I ask that members and visitors adhere to course rules and not take buggies and trolleys over them.

This week the green aeration program will continue with sorrel rolling and verticutting. Also this week the greens will be turf ironed again.

With the arrival of our new greens mower, our older one was sent for a full overhaul – the mower units were sharpened and new bottom blades were fitted. This will now allow a much truer and level cut. We are now cutting greens at 3.5mm, this is a slightly longer cut to allow the greens  to develop the good sward or turf density that we now have.”

n.b. Just an advanced notice – during the week beginning 12 Sept we will be hollowtining. This is an essential procedure and needs to be done at this time of year. More info on that in next week’s report.

“This week we shall be starting to repair all the worn and weak areas of turf around the course by seeding and topdressing. This should bring the these areas back up to a good quality turf by increasing the sward density.
We will be fertilising the semi areas in front of the tongues to try and make them more visible and thicken them up.

Last week we sprayed for fusarium on the greens – as you may know by now, this is a turf fungus/disease and we are coming into the time of year where it is most active. This treatment might result in a small amount of scarring – this is just a short-term problem at this time of time of year provided we keep on top of it from now until Spring.

Also this week we will begin to benefit from the purchase of a new Toro 3250 greens mower, which will replace one of our old mowers. We are delighted with it as it is state of the art and should give us a good few years of top service. I would like to thank the owners for purchasing this for us and of course for you, the members of the club.”
