Leeds Golf Centre – the UK home of The Leadbetter Golf Academy!

Posted on: March 12th, 2013 by nathan No Comments

After feverish speculation and a period of mounting excitement, Leeds Golf Centre has today announced a new long-term exclusive partnership to become the UK headquarters of The Leadbetter Golf Academy, arguably the most famous ever name in golf tuition.

The world’s number one golf instructor and coach to countless PGA Tour, European PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and Champions Tour players, David Leadbetter is known across the globe for his innovative and creative teaching techniques. Over the past 30 years, his tour players have amassed over a dozen Major Championship titles and over 100 individual worldwide tournament victories – indeed, David has often been recognised as the ‘man who invented the golf instruction industry’ and voted the number-one golf coach in the world by peers.

Selecting Leeds Golf Centre as The Leadbetter Golf Academy’s UK base following critical acclaim for its facilities and overall proposition, David Leadbetter said: “I am delighted to begin what I know will be an exciting academy at Leeds Golf Centre. The area around Leeds is rich in golfing heritage and has a fine tradition of great players. This fact, coupled with the fantastic redevelopment of Leeds Golf Centre in recent years, means that there could be only one venue for us to create a really special golf academy. Our values and those of Leeds Golf Centre match up very well and we are looking forward to putting top instruction on the map in Leeds.”

Nigel Sweet, Leeds Golf Centre’s Operations Manager, added: “We are absolutely thrilled to become The Leadbetter Golf Academy’s UK headquarters – it’s an incredible honour and something we are immensely proud of. The team here have worked tirelessly over the last few years to make Leeds Golf Centre what it is today and this announcement goes some way to rewarding them for their efforts.”

The Leadbetter Golf Academy, open to the public at Leeds Golf Centre on Easter Monday 1st April 2013, offers world-class golf instruction in over 25 international locations, spanning Europe, the USA and Asia. Demand for tuition is expected to be significant - call 0113 288 6000 to book one of the first available slots.

AMARDEEP ON FORM AT LEEDS GOLF CENTRE

Posted on: August 1st, 2012 by nathan No Comments

At just 16 years old, Amardeep Manku is one of Leeds Golf Centre’s rising stars. Having won the club’s prestigious Captain’s Day prize for juniors, he’s shown real commitment to his game and undertaken a rigorous training and coaching regime with top Leeds Golf Centre professional, Mark Moore.

Already a fully-fledged member of Wike Ridge Golf Club’s junior squad, Amardeep has impressed since taking the game up just over a year ago. Impressively gaining an opening handicap of 18 in 2011, the Leeds-born youngster has dropped a significant 6 shots in 12 months – and is setting his sights on single figures before the end of the year.

Much of Amardeep’s success can be attributed to his growing experience of the game. Indeed, having played for such a comparatively short period of time, every additional round equips him with new experiences and challenges that bolster him for the future. However, according to the highly likeable youngster, it is his work with Mark Moore that has had the most dramatic effect on performance: “Mark has been my coach for about a year now and we get on great,” says Amardeep. “He’s very honest about my golf and makes everything sound so simple. My swing has been improved significantly and as a result, my game has already been elevated to a whole new level.

Mark Moore himself is no stranger to success – coaching not one but three European Tour players including Knaresborough-born star, John Parry, the former Rudding Park professional sees great results from pupils of all standards and has helped to establish Leeds Golf Centre’s Elite Academy for those with aspirations to compete at the game’s top amateur and professional levels.

Commenting on his approach, Mark said: “The facilities here at Leeds Golf Centre are second-to-none. Using the FlightScope swing studios gives tremendous insight into swing dynamics and ball flight, whilst outdoor practice areas enable us to imitate the kind of circumstances and conditions that players will experience week in week out. The swing studios might sound a little bit daunting but everyone that has ever taken a lesson in there has been seriously impressed with the sense of perspective and detail of information they provide.”

And Amardeep agrees. “Using the Academy facilities has been a real advantage. Looking at my swing on camera helps me to see where I am going wrong and correct it – plus the V1 video lesson that Mark sends to my iPhone at the end of each session is a great reminder of the areas I need to work on. I actually think that FlightScope is one of the greatest things ever invented in golf – having an indicator of what my ball flight is, how far each shot goes and other information including spin rate is really important when taking my game back out on the course.”

Summarising his enjoyment of the hugely redeveloped facilities at Leeds Golf Centre, Amardeep added: “I think what Parklane Properties are doing here is great. The new course now makes you think much harder about shot selection because of the new water features, trees and bunkers. And the clubhouse is brilliant too – Nineteen Bar & Grill is a lovely place to come and relax with friends and family. I love how you get a great view of the 18th green and short game practice areas from the restaurant window although it always makes me rush my meal in order to get back out there!”

The joys of youth!

A range of great value offers are available on tuition, green fees and items from Leeds Golf Centre’s superbly-stocked Pro Shop. To discover more about the self-styled home of modern golf, visit www.leedsgolfcentre.com or call 0113 288 6000.

DAN SEAMAN JOINS LEEDS GOLF CENTRE

Posted on: July 11th, 2012 by nathan No Comments

Leeds Golf Centre has this month strengthened its Academy roster by recruiting a new trainee professional – Dan Seaman, son of former England goalkeeper, David Seaman.

Much like his dad, Dan has international pedigree. Having represented England playing golf at under-21 level, Dan eventually turned pro in 2010 off a handicap of plus-2. Accepting that his skills may not carry him far enough up the professional tournament ladder, Dan soon recognised that his superb demeanour and friendly attitude would make for an excellent career in coaching.

The appointment – very much part of a grand plan for an epic season in 2013 – has come largely as a result of the facility’s growing reputation and hugely successful multi-million pound redevelopment project. Whilst Dan will initially be specialising in custom fitting new clubs at Leeds Golf Centre’s superb Pro Shop and golf store, the 27 year-old will progress onto providing tuition within the Academy after sitting his final year PGA exams in 2013.

Speaking about his new role, Dan said: “I’m really thrilled to be part of the Leeds Golf Centre team. The Academy facilities here are absolutely brilliant, especially for people such as myself who want a career in golf coaching. For example, the chance to use our FlightScope teaching bays for swing and ball flight analysis is a really exciting prospect. From talking to our customers, it’s clear that there’s a lot of enthusiasm about the future of this club and I’m just delighted to have an opportunity to get involved at what is clearly a very important time.”

The facility is no stranger to sporting celebrity – besides being the official golf course partner to both Leeds Rugby and Yorkshire Country Cricket Club, several Academy professionals have strong links with famous faces. Mark Moore (senior PGA professional) is currently coaching European Tour professionals, Danny Dennison and John Parry. Marylyn Brand (trainee PGA professional) is the daughter of former Ryder Cup player, Gordon J Brand. Capping the lot, Bill Ferguson (Master PGA professional) coached Colin Montgomerie, Ian Woosnam and the great Seve Ballesteros amongst many other leading players throughout the 1970s and 80s.

Dan joins an exceptional professional line-up at Leeds Golf Centre – but also an organisational culture that positively embraces competitive golf. Indeed, Leeds Golf Centre’s Operations Manager, Nigel Sweet, recently claimed the Welsh Mid-Amateur Championship at Royal St David’s in North Wales after captaining the winning side at the French Mid-Amateur Team Championships a fortnight earlier. What’s more, head professional and Academy manager, Andy Herridge, reached final qualifying for this year’s Open Championship having finished fourth at Moortown Golf Club in local qualifying.

Nigel Sweet commented: “Dan is a very welcome addition to the Leeds Golf Centre team and I have no doubt his excellent attitude will be well-received by club members and visitors alike. We look forward eagerly to the PGA exams next year when we hope Dan will become a fully-fledged member of our qualified coaching team. Plus it’s always a real pleasure to welcome a modern-day sporting great to the club as we did today when David visited to check out his son’s new workplace and have a golf lesson – we hope to see more of him in the future too.”

PRESS RELEASE
Leeds Golf Centre grabs YMG Junior Golf Academy status

YMG Junior Golf

Youngsters keen to try their hand at golf can now look forward to the very best introduction to the game as Leeds Golf Centre has become a YMG Junior Golf Academy.

YMG is the first-ever structured educational syllabus designed to not only introduce boys and girls to the game of golf, but also help them develop the skills and knowledge of the game that will keep them interested and motivated long enough for the golf bug to bite.

Andy Herridge

Leeds Golf Centre is delighted to become one of around only 300 clubs nationwide to be accredited with YMG Junior Golf Academy status, as Head PGA Professional and Academy Manager, Andy Herridge explains “We’re all very excited to have become a YMG Academy because it means we can now offer children the fabulous YMG programme, which, alongside coaching youngsters in how to play the game, also teaches the rules and etiquette through exciting activities, fun challenges and mini-competitions to ensure that the whole golfing experience is about having fun.

Youngsters joining a YMG Academy receive a comprehensive manual, which puts as much emphasis on the rules and etiquette as it does on playing the game, and there are five levels to work through, each comprising an 8-week course of one-hour lessons.

The extremely attractive and carefully assembled manual enables youngsters to see what’s in store, week-by-week for each of the 9 levels (Cadets, Cadets 2, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Master 1-4) and each level is marked by a series of fun skills and knowledge challenges which the children complete to move on the next level.

“We will be starting our first YMG Cadets course – the first stage of the YMG programme – in September and we already have quite a few youngsters interested in joining the classes, but we’ll always make room for more,” says Andy. We will also be holding free taster sessions every month to give everyone the opportunity to experience golf first hand.

The cost will be £80 per term (8 weeks) and if you would like to register your interest in a YMG Cadets course at Leeds Golf Centre, call the PGA Professional team on 0113 288 6000, or call in at Leeds Golf Centre, which is located at Shadwell, Leeds, just off the A59 between Leeds and Harrogate.

Development update: Teaching Bays, Conservatory & Car Park Trees!

Posted on: July 25th, 2011 by nathan No Comments

Since announcing the development of the new conservatory / extended bar area with viewing deck and Academy video teaching bays, work has been moving steadily forward and are still on schedule for an early September completion. We thought you might like to see some of the progress.

VIEWING DECK AND BETTER 19th HOLE
In case you missed out on the news we are having a large conservatory and Pro Shop entrance being built on the 18th hole side of the club house. The idea of which is to provide a course-side sheltered viewing area in the bar allowing you to watch your friends finish off their round as well as a viewing deck upstairs outside the Oaks room, affording you views over nearly the entire course.

HIGH TECH TEACHING BAYS

In addition to this we are having two video teaching bays built allowing a new entrance to the range. We have developed an amazing line-up of teaching Pros and, combined with these new high-tech teaching bays, we will be able to offer near-peerless golf teaching and coaching services in our Academy. MIA Sport Technology, a Sheffield based firm, will be providing the state of the art V1 system.

LANDSCAPING IN THE CAR PARK
You will no doubt have noticed all the landscape gardening going on around the clubhouse especially, but even those of you who miss such things will surely notice the new trees in the car park. These new trees provide a softer and friendly arrival at the club and will also be up-lit in the evenings.

ABOUT THE SADIE ROSE CLIFFORD APPEAL…

In October 2010 aged just 14 months old Sadie Rose was diagnosed with a childhood Cancer called Neuroblastoma.Sadie has survived front line treatment here in the UK, which has included an initial 70 days of Chemotherapy in November 2010, major surgery in February 2011 to remove her tumour which was located above her left kidney and wrapped around the main artery in the body, her Aorta. This was a life threatening operation but she came out fighting and was home after just over a week in hospital. Sadie recovered amazingly well.

Sadie is now about to start her next battle where she has to undergo 3 weeks of radiotherapy. Along with this she has to have antibody treatment, this is a painful procedure and will last around 6 months. However Sadie’s Neuroblastoma is the worst type possible and she has around an 80% chance of relapsing in the first 2 years after treatment.

There is currently no relapse protocol in the UK. Should this happen to Sadie, our only option will be a relapse protocol in Germany or America. These treatments have been proven to work and we know of other children here in the UK who have benefited from them. These treatments come at a price of around £200,000-£300,000.

For full details see their charity website here: Sadie Rose Clifford Appeal
