COURSE REPORT 10/12/2012

Winter is definitely here! And with the so-called ‘beast from the East” Siberian cold front having taken residency in Yorkshire in the back half of this week, our valiant team of greenkeepers will continue their efforts to defy the odds and keep the courses open!

After last week’s severe ground frosts and sub-zero air temperatures (-2C last Thursday), we’d hoped to catch a couple of days this week when we could finish off on the 16th green and fairway next to the 18th water feature. The cold snap has prevented us from doing that this far as to complete the work, we need it to be frost free (so that we can top off the work with soil and re-turf as necessary).

Looking ahead to next week – in the hope of slightly warmer daytime temperatures – we will be endeavouring to finish off spraying the fairways for worms and will continue with the treatment of all fairways and around the new 4th green with our new Immants Shockwave machine.

For those that have asked recently, all of our greens will be cut by hand during the winter months so as to avoid any unnecessary damage.

Thanks very much for reading – I greatly look forward to all your cards and gifts arriving ahead of the Xmas break!

Other regular & additional work that we will be doing this week is:

  • Sweep drain lines and mark up GUR
  • De-stone 8th bunker
  • Trim trees around the irrigation pond
  • Clear the lane of leaves and cut
  • De-plug the range
  • Spray for worms”

Brian D Carr
Head Greenkeeper
