The winter greenkeeping program is well under way up at Leeds Golf Centre and the team are carrying out essential maintenance that not only helps the course through the colder months but also prepares it for the start of the 2013 season.

“Weather permitting as always (and the forecast looks good!) we will see all of the worm suppressant spraying being completed on the fairways – the greens, tees and collars were completed last week. This procedure simply prevents the unsightly worm casts on playing areas.

The aeration program continues this week with the tees due to be completed using the Shockwave de-compactor system. In addition to this the general aeration program will carry on which consists of slit-tining the greens, fairways and general areas.

we are pleased to say that last week saw the completion of the new drainage to the left of the 3rd green. Once this has settled down, and combined with the Shockwave treatment, it should help keep the area free of any water logging. Our drainage improvements also continue this week as we turn our attention to installing a drain at the side of the new water feature on the 18th. This drain will run from the path to the water feature and should dry this area out once and for all.

Other regular work that we will be doing this week is:

  • De-plug the range
  • Check and de-stone 8th bunker
  • Pitch mark repair the greens
  • Leaf clearing on greens and the lane
  • Clean the irrigation system including sprinklers
  • Level any mole hills”
