A packed News in Brief this month as we announce the arrival of TaylorMade’s newest hardware, detail superb offers at Nineteen Bar & Grill, explain how to become a golfing VIP by booking a society or corporate golf day and share great news about some LGC stalwarts!
R1 driver, RBZ Stage2 & Adizero in stock
Great news for equipment-mad players and those with an interest in hitting the ball further than ever before – we are now carrying stock of TaylorMade’s new R1 driver (priced £329), the RBZ Stage2 driver (£229), RBZ Stage2 fairway wood (£179) and RBZ Stage2 hybrid (just £139). We have price-matched against American Golf – so you won’t find them cheaper anywhere on the high street – and if you bring this newsletter with you before the end of February (either in print or on your phone), we’ll give you an extra £10 off each item too!
Also in stock now are the new golf shoes from Adidas, the Adizero Tour (£114.99) and Adizero 6 Spike (£69.99). Visit Leeds’ best value Pro Shop from 8am until 8pm or call 0113 288 6000 to reserve your items over the phone.

Book a society or corporate golf day before 28th February 2013 (NB events must be played by the end of May 2013 to qualify) and get a hot beverage plus breakfast sandwich and 18 holes of great golfing action for your group from just £18.50 per person! What’s more, if your party consists of at least 16 players, group organisers go free as our VIP guest for the day (ie no charge for the package plus complimentary range balls, 15 minutes’ tuition from one of our PGA professionals and a soft drink to take out on the course).

Rabbits team promotion
We are delighted to report that, due to a re-organisation of the Leeds & District Rabbit Golf Association (LDRGA) two-man league, Wike Ridge Golf Club’s Rabbits team has now been promoted from Division 1 to the Premier League for the 2013 season! Charting unprecedented territory in order to achieve this feat, the team has come from rock bottom of the league system in 2011 to Premier League status in only two seasons.
Leeds Golf Centre is very proud of the team and moreover the work that Brian Slater devotes to the Rabbits section – we’d like to wish Brian and the squad the very best of luck ahead of their debut premiership season.
The latest winners of our regular par-3 simulator competition, this time played at the picturesque ‘Covered Bridge Golf Club’ in Indiana, are Adam Gunn (first place, winning a £20 voucher to spend at LGC), Richard Allen (joint second, winning a £10 voucher) and Dean Bestall (£10 voucher for joint second place and also the winner of this year’s first event).
Hosted in the warmth of our indoor heated swing studios, the competition represents a bit of competitive fun utilising the superb FlightScope ball tracking technology – crucially without the need to set foot outdoors!
The next competition starts on Monday 11th February and runs until close of business on Sunday 24th February – play holes 3, 5, 12 and 15 of the stunning Spyglass Hill course at Pebble Beach for your chance to win! Entries are just £2, payable at the Pro Shop – good luck!

Sweet off to winning ways again
Continuing his stellar form from 2012, LGC’s General Manager, Nigel Sweet, has been crowned the 2013 Algarvian International amateur champion following a superb few days’ golf at Pinheiros Altos Golf Club in Portugal.
As the brainchild of John Waters and the head pro at Pinheiros Altos, the 54-hole tournament is essentially a warm-up event for the PGA Seniors Tour School which traditionally takes place in The Algarve at the end of January. The event – which is open to amateurs over the age of 45 and professionals over the age of 48 – featured an impressive entry list of 34 amateurs and 60 professionals, 12 of whom already possess full Seniors Tour cards including Andrew Murray (who commentates on Sky Sports), Paul Wesselingh, Gordon Brand, Nick Mitchell and Stephen Mcallister to name a few.
Unperturbed by the challenge of pitching his skills against familiar names from the tour, Sweet carded scores of 69, 76 and 70 for a one-under total of 215 – a score good enough to claim the amateur title and third place overall behind two professionals, Kai Smith (-3) and Paul Wesselingh (-2). Impressive stuff from Mr Sweet, a man who continues to impress with golf of the very highest quality – we wish Nigel well for the coming season.
Joe Feather on tour in Asia
As reported in News in Brief last month, LGC’s very own aspiring tour pro, Joe Feather, is currently contesting the Asian Development Tour in the Far East. After qualifying for the first event, Joe narrowly missed the cut by a solitary shot at the PGM CCM Rahman Putra Masters in Malaysia – an excellent effort indeed.
This week represents that last chance to sign up for our new Academy group lessons, designed specifically for those seeking to learn the basics of golf. ‘Discover Golf’ is the ideal starter package – priced at just £39 for three one-hour lessons starting on Saturday 9th February at 10am (same time weekly thereafter), it represents unrivalled value. And for the would-be golfer wishing to pursue a slightly more thorough introduction, our ‘Learn & Play’ course consists of six one-hour group lessons starting Thursday 7th February at 6.30pm (again, sessions run at the same time each week thereafter) and costs just £69.
So don’t delay – invite your friend, family member or colleague to ‘get into golf’ right now – before the start of the season! Registrations for these programmes can be made right up until the start of the first session – call the Pro Shop on 0113 288 6000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to book!
