SAD NEWS AS DOUGIE GIBSON PASSES
It is with great sadness that we write to inform you of Dougie Gibson’s death. Dougie passed away last week after a brave fight against terminal illness despite being told he would unlikely make it to Christmas. As a very active member of Wike Ridge Golf Club, Dougie was an especially keen supporter of the Par 3 Club and will be sadly missed.
As reported in a previous edition of the newsletter, Dougie recently inaugurated ‘The Wheatfields Trophy’ in recognition of the excellent care he received at Wheatfields Hospice – indeed, the Par 3 Club will play for the trophy in his memory every other year, with proceeds being donated to the charity.
For those wishing to attend, the funeral will take place at Lawnswood Cemetery on Wednesday 16 May at 1pm – a wake follows at Weetwood Hall after the service. Our condolences are sincerely offered to Dougie’s widow, Marilyn, and their wider family.
NINETEEN BAR & GRILL – TEMPORARY MENU
Nineteen Bar & Grill will be operating a reduced menu next week due to the final phase of its redevelopment from the former Wike Ridge Inn. The brand new bar and restaurant area will be integrating its new kitchen, part of the new extension to the main clubhouse building.Â
The existing kitchen will close at 4.30pm this coming Sunday (13 May) and is due to reopen a week or so later (exact date TBC). In this transitional period, Nineteen Bar and Grill will be serving a range of hot and cold sandwiches as well as the usual selection of cakes either downstairs in the bar area or upstairs in the Oaks room. The main bar area will remain open as usual.
Please bear with us while we complete the work – we’re sure you’ll all agree that Nineteen Bar & Grill has already proved to be a superb addition to the facilities and the new kitchen will only improve the quality of food and service yet further. Thank you for your patience!
